Home Energy Efficiency Improvements Grant

To all Mountain Park residents:

I am excited to tell you that the City of Mountain Park has been awarded a $300,000 grant from federal stimulus funding for home energy efficiency improvements. The majority of the funding, just under $200,000, is earmarked for direct grants to residents for insulation and weather stripping, furnace and AC upgrades, and appliance upgrades. While the details are still to be worked out, up to 50% of the improvements can be reimbursed, with a maximum grant of $3,000 per home. Both owner-occupants and renters are both eligible to participate. A portion of the award will be used for energy efficiency improvements to City Hall. When completed, City Hall will act as a demonstration facility for energy efficiency and renewable energy.

No Mountain Park tax dollars will be used in the implementation of the grant and your participation is strictly voluntary. A free home energy audit will be provided for those wishing to participate. The goal is to save as much energy (and money) as possible per house and to maximize the effectiveness of every grant dollar.

A Town Hall meeting will be held on Wednesday June 30 at 7:00pm to answer questions and provide more details about the various incentives available. In the meantime, we are completing the guidelines for how this program will be administered. It is very important we get your input on what you would like to see in the program. A pre-qualification form is enclosed for you to complete should you wish to participate. By completing this form, you are not committing to anything. If you think you may be interested, complete this and return it to City Hall by June 25, 2010. Funds will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents who complete the pre-qualification survey will receive priority.

We think this as a great opportunity for Mountain Park to take a regional leadership role on energy efficiency through the actions of its citizens. Please continue to check the City's website for grant updates and stay tuned for more information on this exciting program which will be available soon.

P.S. A similar program, the Low Income Weatherization Assistance Program, is available for free for qualifying low-income residents. Information on this program will also be available at the Town Hall meeting on Wednesday June 30 at 7:00pm.
